What is JEE Advance?

Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) is second level entrance exam for admissions to all Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and ISM Dhanbad. Students who have qualified JEE Main, first stage exam, can only appear for JEE Advance. It is known for one the toughest exam over the world for admissions to engineering institutions.

What’s The Eligibility Criteria?

Eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Main Exam are based on following:

1) JEE main performance:

Candidates should be among the top 2,20,000 (including all categories) by scoring positive marks in Paper-1 of JEE (Main).

2) Reservation:

The percentages of various categories are: 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and the remaining 50.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these four categories, 3% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates.

3) Age:

Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1994. Five years relaxation is given to SC, ST and PwD candidates, i.e., these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1989.

4) No. of Attempts:

A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years. Students passed 12th std or equivalent exam in year 2018 or appearing in 2019 are eligible. Candidates who appeared in JEE (Advanced) 2018 for the first time are also eligible.

Important Note

You are not eligible for JEE Advance, if you have taken or accepted admission by paying the fees at any of the IITs or ISM in the past OR if your admission to any of the IITs was canceled in the past.

However, if you have taken a ‘Preparatory Course’ one year prior to the exam in any IITs, you can apply for JEE Advanced.

How to Apply for JEE Advance?

JEE Advance application form is to be filled online on the official website, www.jeeadv.ac.in. You need to register with JEE Main Roll number and password with some basic details.

Application Process:

Step 1 – Register with JEE Main Roll number, password and security pin. You need to choose a password for JEE Advance.

Step 2 – You will be redirected to the page where your all information filled in JEE Main application will appear.  You may need to select the language of the exam and have to give 3 choices of a center for the exam (all 3 choices must be from same IIT zone)

Step 3 – Upload scanned copies of required documents

Step 4 – Payment of Fees

You can do payment of exam fees online through debit card/internet banking.

You can also pay fee by depositing cash in SBI.

Once the application process is successfully completed, you have to download the admit card.

What’s the Pattern of JEE Advance Exam?

JEE Advance exam is very flexible regarding its pattern. Pattern of this exam changes every year to year. Questions asked in the exam are tough and tricky.

Mainly, it consists of two papers, paper 1 and paper 2.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 of JEE Advanced constitute a total of 54 questions each. The paper is further divided into three sections: Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics, each having 18 questions. In total, the exam is of 306 marks, each paper carrying 183 marks. The duration of each paper is 3 hours.

Paper-1 and Paper-2 mainly based on following type of questions :

MCQs with single correct answer

MCQs with multiple correct answer

Integer answer type questions

Matrix match based questions

Passage comprehension type questions

Negative marks will be awarded for incorrect answers to some of the questions. The candidates must carefully read and adhere to the detailed instructions given in the question paper.
